Tenness Williams is one of the greatest playwrights in the U.S.A after the world War ?. Until now many of his plays have benn filmed. The film of A Streetcar Named Desire grew out of the New York stage production which opened on December 3, 1947. Williams wrote the screenplay with Elia Kazan, who directed both the stage and film productions and this film was released in 1951. Kazan's main challenge in filming A Streetcar Named Desire was to represent a racial discrimination not against black people but against poor white in the South. That is to say, he wanted to represent that the film of A streetcar Named Desire is "the tragedy of Stanley , " who was a typical poor white. In this paper the present wtiter would like to exaplain why this film can be called 'the tragedy of Stanley,'
