A FSS (Frequency Selective Surface) which comprises periodic arrays of patches or apertures in a conducting screen and finds important applications as filters in microwaves and optics, is discussed. And it has frequency-band-rejection characteristics or frequency-band-pass characteristics. On the other hand, Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC) is a kind of artificial materials, and it has PMC (Perfect magnetic conductor) characteristics in a specific frequencies. On the PMC surface, incident waves are reflected without phase shift. Furthermore, in order to reduce the size of devices on integrated circuits, it has become necessary to use conductive materials having low resistivity and insulators having low dielectric constant to reduce the capacitive coupling between adjacent metal lines. This paper describes a design method for AMC with dielectric layer by using a loop-slot FSS which has band-pass characteristics. Based on the design method, the AMCs with several dielectric constants of the dielectric layer are compared to obtain a thinner AMC, and the bandwidth characteristics of them are analyzed. The result shows that a thinner AMC can be obtained when the dielectric layer with higher dielectric constants. It is also shown that there is a peak point of the bandwidth and the point is depend on the dielectric constant.
