A wafer-scale beamforming lens antenna has been proposed in this paper, which is aiming for IEEE802.15.3c (60GHz WPAN). The proposed lens was designed on a high resistivity silicon (HRS) wafer whose thickness is 300um and resistivity is greater than 10kΩ-cm. The lens has five beam ports and seven array ports. Microstrip patch antennas were used as radiators, and GBCPW-to-microstrip transitions were designed for the probe contact. The radiation patterns were measured in on-wafer measurement setup. It shows that the beam directions are -30.9°, -21.8°, 0°, 21.8°, and 26.6°. These results are in good agreement with the calculated patterns from ray-optic. Thus, it is verified that the lens antenna can be implemented on a wafer for the system on chip (SoC) and the system in package (SiP) technologies.
