• I has studied concerning the frequency and attitude of malignant cells appearing in the circulating blood in patients of malignant tumor. Tumor cells artificially injected into the veins of rabbit were mostly destroyed in the circulating blood and adheared in the tissue capillaries (especially in the pulmonary fields). About 1/300 of the injected volume appeared and collected in different peripheral blood. P.V.P. method was used for collection of cells. Giemsa method and Acridine Orange method was chiefly used for dyeing. Forms of collected cells usually showed small and round type and lacking in different charactristics. Majority showed degenerative appearances, while some of them considerably preserved original cellular construction. Attention was paid in this experiment, especially, to the identification of cells. Differentiation was required with the immature blood cells, mainly macromyelocyte. 37 reported cases of non-malignancy indicated no false negative, and 8.3% of the suspected. Total positive rate was 14.3% in 84 reported cases of cervical cancer of the uterus and suspected positive rate reviewed 15.5%. Positive rate of tumor cells in the blood was higher in the advanced cancer than in the early stage. Similarly, it is higher in the postoperative than in the pre-operative. The rate was higher in the blood stream closed to the tumor field than in the distant peripheral blood. And the rate showed a parallel relation to the degree of infiltration from the histological classification. Positive rate of ovarian cancer showed 25%. Frequency of trophoblasts appearing in the peripheral blood indicated 33.3% in chorioepithelioma, 16.7% in chorioadenoma destruens, 20% in mole, and 30% in the umbilical blood of postpartum. The tumor cells probably have a tendency of entering into the blood vessels of the tumor field not in constant quantity, but in intermittent flow. Then, positive rate of of tumor cells in the peripheral blood will be elevated from repeated examination.
