There is a famous habitate of tetanus in Chiba-prefecture. Owing to the report of the Welfare Ministry, number of patients of tetanus in Chiba-prefecture is ranked second among that of whole Japan. An incidence of the disease is of many variety in various region. It is said that moist region or ground heaped up composed is a habitate of tetanus. There is 45 cases of tetanus disease, known clearly where they wounded, a part of them treated in the National Chiba Hospital, an other part of them reported to Health Centers. I investigated a soil where they are wounded. Items of investigation of soil are as follows: Soil color, soil tecture, humus, gradel, compactness, hardness of soil, and dust, porosity, peat, dryness, pH, ventilation and permeation of water. And then I tried to find a tetanus bacillus in the soil. Following results are summalized: The majority of soil, where patients are wounded, is sand or sand laom with poorly clayed spots. There is rather few of a clayed spot. Tetanus bacillus is found much more at poorly clayed spot. Soil containing poor humus is 27 spots and containing rich of it is 16. The bacillus is discovered at 5 spots of soil with poor humus. There are many tetanus disease broken ont compacted soil, where counted 26 spots. At 7 among 26 spots, I discover the bacillus. There are 26 spots with poor porosity. The bacillus is found at 7 spots among them. Soil with peat is rather few. There are 39 spots where containing poor peat. The bacillus is found at 8 spots among 37. There is no relation between the infection of the disease and peat. There are 27 spots of moistured soil, and at 5 of them I can find the bacillus. There are 16 spots of dryed soil and I am able to find a bacillus at 5 among them. It is a prove that the bacillus exists even in a dryed soil. Well ventilated or permeated soil is 17 spots, on the other hand badly ventilated or permeated 26. It is truethat the disease break out in the latter, there is, however, also break out in the former soil. The bacillus is still found in well ventilated or permeated soil, where counts 6 spots. It reveals that a man is possible to infect a tetanus disease from. dryed soil containing clay and samd with poor humus or no peat.
