Non-pathogenic bacteria except tubercle bacilli were isolated from the materials of intrabronchial exudate in 26 cases by bronchoscopy. And sensitivity of the isolates to antibiotics was tested. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Blood or plasma glucose bouillon agar was used as isolation medium but in the case of the plasma agar, isolation of Streptococcus group was not sufficient. Sometimes mannitol-salt agar, SS-agar and Endo's medium were also employed. 2. Bacterial flora in bronchial tubes were chiefly Gram positive cocci (Staphylococcus, Micrococcus, Streptococcus, Diplococcus, Sarcina, Tetragenes). In many cases, red or pink pigmented Micrococcus were isolated. Those organisms were identified Micrococcus rhodochrous and Micrococcus cinnabareus. Nocardia was often dominant in isolates when human blood agar was used. 3. In general, the red Micrococcus, Diplococcus, Sarcina and Tetragenes were highly resistant to streptomycin, Many strains of these bacteria grew well at the concentration of 1000 mcg/ml, 49 strains were resistant to 1000 mcg/ml of streptomycin, while only 33 bacteria had their growth inhibited by the concentration of 1.0 mcg/m1 of streptomycin. All bacteria were rather sensitive to terramycin. 4. The question whether the development of streptomycin resistant bacteria in the bronchial tubes has any relations to chemotherapy is discussed.
