• 1) For the purpose of the study of diarrhea of adults, due to Shigella and Bethesda-Ballerup, the author sedrched bacteria of 103 cases of diarrhea of adults and 62 cases of healthy adults monthly for 6 months and observed outbreak of diarrhea and gastroenteritis. 2) 5 strains of Shigella and 3 strains of Bethesda from diarrhea were isoladed. And, by the monthly investigation 4 strains of Shigella and 56 strains of Bethesda-Ballerup were isolated. 3) Behaviours of isolated strains were similar to Kauffmann's descriptions. Shigella were resistant to sulfonamid. 4) Shigella can be isolated from mild diarrhea or non-symptomatic adults. About 5 % of diarrhea of adults are mild bacterial dysentery. Bethesda-Ballerup are isolated from diarrhea and almost equally from healthy individuals. Bethesda-Ballerup have only slight meaning as pathogene of diarrhea. The increase of Bethesda-Ballerup in the intestine frequently comes with changes of the conditions of human body. When these organisms are isolated frequently, the conditions of intestine are not stabilized.
