This study concerns twenty-five patients_ admitted to the National Chiba Hospital on account of hypnotic poisoning during 1953 to 1956 and nine dogs those are administrated hypnotic as an animal examination. Most of the clinical cases have ingested Brov alin (bromv alerylures) or Adorm (cychlo barbital) and of these patients five died. Clinical symptoms, blood picture and punction of the bone marrow are examined in these patients. The results are summarized as follows: 1) Most of the clinical cases the temperature rises within 48 hours after intake of the drug. 2) Red blood cell counts and hemoglobin contents of the blood as well as those of the bone marrow are increased within 48 hours, they are, however, reduced to normal counts within 96 hours after intake of the drug. 3) Leucocytes, within 48 hours after ingestion of the drug, are increased and show a left shift. Lymphocytes and eosinophilic cells are decreased. Cells of the bone marrow are remarkably decreased while percentage of the neutrophilic myelocytes are increased, suggesting these cells are driven into the blood. Among nine dogs, four are treated with brov alin and four with adorm and performed examinations of the blood and the temperature.(1 is a contrast) The results are as follows: 1) Temperature of all dogs is reduced and show the lowest of that within 6 hours after intake of the drug. Three of them died and temperature of these are below 20℃. 2) Red blood cell counts and hemoglobin contents are decreased withn 6 hours after intake of the drug, and then they are gradually increased. This is caused by delution of the blood. 3) White blood cell counts, in all cases, as well as neutral leucocytes, Lymphocytes, and eosinophilic cells, are decreased. Differentiation between human and dog is probably caused by the dosage of the drug and the time of the examination.
