We carried out studies in the ascaris lumbricoides on the formation of so-called "Precipitate," originally described by Dr. Sarles in Nippostrongylus muris in 1938. We put several drops of humanserum obtained from carriers of ascaris eggs on glassslides and added to them about 50 larvae of ascaris lumbricoides; they were covered with the coverslides and sealed with vaseline. Then we observed the changes in the serum and the larvae in the incubator at 37℃. Formation of precipitate occurred markedly around the bodies of the larvae of ascaris and also in the serum 24 houre after the contamination of larvae with the serum from carriers of ascaris eggs. In controls, using serums from persons free of ascaris eggs, precipitate appeared only in very slight degree 48 hours later. In 2 cases of controls there appeared middling precipitate in the same length of time and in I of 2 contro cases, one ascaris was discharged by later extermination. The changes in the larvae, contaminated with sera from carriers of ascaris eggs for 24 hours, were cytochemically observed by the Lillie's staining method for polysaccharide and Feulgen staining method for desoxyribose-nucleic acid. The amounts of polysaccharide and desoxyribose-nucleic acid in the bodies of those larvae were reduced more markedly than in the control larvae. These results indicate that the serum from host of ascaris lumbricoides would have noxious effects on the larvae of ascaris lumbricoides.
