The author has added to accumulated excretions the anaerobic cellulolytic bacteria which he has isolated, and observed changes of the fermenting process in the faeces. Acquired main results are as follows: 1) The scum was destroyed perfectly in 15 days. 2) The excretions were liquefied more rapidly than control. 3) PH of the accumulated excretions remained between 7.2 to 7.4 4) Numbers of anaerobic cellulolytic bacteria increased every day, but numbers of other anaerobic bacteria decreased on the contrary. 5) Gas was produced in the excretions more than in the control, and alkali gas showed larger proportion. 6) When the sludge was added to the excretions, the scum was easily destroyed and the excretions wereliquefied rapidly. Presumably these phenomenons were caused by the anaerobic cellulolytic bacteria in the sludge.
