The author performed clearance tests in 28 cases of normal infants , and children, with ages ranging from 6 months to 10 years 11 months, to measure GFR, RPF, PF and RR. Ccr and Cpah methods were used to measure diffrences in values according to age in 24 cases, while Cthio and Cpah methods were used for determining normal values for children of over 2 years of age in 4 other cases. The results of the experiments are summarized as follows. (1) The values for GFR tests showed a tendency to increase as the age advanced until from 8 months to 1 year 2 months of age. After thatperiod, the majority of cases under study manifested more or less constant values, indicating that the maturity of kidney function had been achieved. (2) The values for RFP, along with these for RBF, increased as the age advanced. After from 1 year 4 months to year 7 months of age, however, the majority of cases have come to show constant values, indicating thematurity of kidney function. (3) The younger the infants and children were, the higher were the values for FF tests. Although the values showed a tendency to be reduced as the age advanced, the majority of the cases have shown more or less constant values after 2 years of age, indicating the maturity of kidney function. (4) It seemed that the values for RR tests had become normal before 6 months Of age. With the exception of 1 case, all other cases manifested values within the normal range by that period. (5) The results of the experiments mentioned above have led the author to conclude that the kidney function of normal children in Japan generally reaches maturity in 2 years after birth. In view of the fact, however, that the values for FF tests did not become normal until 2 years after birth, it is likely that the development of kidney function of Japanese infants lags slightly behind that of normal infants in Europe and America. (6) Average values for GFR, RPF and FF for normal children of over 2 years of age, whose kidney function had reached maturity, were 121.3 cc, and 0.215, respectively. These values coincide with normal values for adults, both foreign. and Japanese. (7) As the values for Ccr and Cthio tests were in the ratio 0.88: 1 in children of over 2 years of age, it seemed that Ccr tests would be suitable for clinical spplication in the measurement of GFR in children, in view of the simple technical procedures involved.
