Frankenstein : Or, The Modern Prometheus consists of three structures of family : the Frankenstein family, the De Lacey family, and sister-brother relation of Margaret and Walton. The Frankenstein family, which seems apparently to be happy, is destroyed by the Monster, Victor's creation and "monstrous agent of destruction and piteous victim of parental abandonment," as Ellen Mores says. After creating him, Victor is insensible to natural beauty. The De Lacey family also disappears unknown. The story tells us Mary Shelley's hopelessness in patriarchal society for happy family relation, but it is her achievement that she can also bring to light the predicament of women in the world of 19th century Europe, through the images of Monster and Victor Frankenstein. They are double of herself. On behalf of Mary, Walton, a narrator, who deeply sympathized with the misery of Vitor and found the glory of his spirit, finally may show us some sense of an ideal family relation, to which Mary tried to get to but could not reach then.
