• Despite the recent prevailing public consent that equality of rights between the sexes has been realized in the modern world, close scrutiny of this concern reveals that sexual bias still survives. This paper aims to look for some clues to the problem of sexual bias in Japanese society through the study of the life and thought of a woman writer, Sata Ineko. Her views on ideal love will be examined in Chapter 1 through her history of reading. These views are presumed to have governed her attitudes and actions at her private life. Chapter 2 treats the writer's considerations on the influences of her views on love on her first marriage.
