Erik. H. Erikson is one of the most famous modern psychologists. But is it correct to say-that he and his theory was recognized essentially. As we know that he protested in a book titled "Identity (1968)", by saying that his theory and concept was accepted too ordinarily or too narrowly. I think we need to take and consider his criticism more seriously. The theory and concept of Erikson has latent possibility for clearing our mysterious "psyche". In Japan, the study of Erikson's theory and studies adopting his. theory is on the increase. Hence there is a growing need to understand his essential idea and vision. In 1969, he said that he had a "hidden method". Actually, his so-called "methodology" is still not clear. If he did follow a methodology, what was it ? There is a thought behind a theory. For the purpose of understanding the methodology of Erikson, we must clarify first how he grasped our psyche and we also must make his basic viewpoint clear. This brief paper is dedicated to these purposes.
