What should teacher education of four year colleges provide for pre-service teachers? Teacher education should provide them with opportunities to develop "practical leadership." Then, what is "practical leadership?" In my opinion, it is the ability to "transform oneself." This doesn't mean to give up one's individuality, originality and creativity, but to utilize them. In order to do this, pre-service teachers should find the opportunity to find what their strong/weak points are and how they should enhance themselves. This is, in short, to explore who they are. The development of this "practical leadership" occurs through studying theories, gaining knowledge, putting them in practice and earning experiences. It doesn't have a certain goal and is always "process." This means that theories and practices organically connect each other in the spiral process, which eventually cultivates a teacher. Based on this perspective, Asahikawa University opened a course named "Seminar on Teaching" in the school year of 2006. This paper examines how eight pre-service teachers, who enrolled this course in the school year of 2006, had become aware of, transformed and developed themselves.
