This paper examines the survey responses by members of the general public on Japanese litigation behavior, and this survey to the general public is a part of a series of surveys undertaken by the Civil Litigation Behavior Research Group, Group C of the Nationwide Survey on Civil Disputes research project, "Dispute Resolution and Civil Justice in a Legalizing Society." To provide a comparative examination of responses by members of the general public and represented or self-represented litigants to questions regarding their perceptions and experiences with respect to various aspects of the litigation process, this paper summarizes the results of general public survey, though highly preliminary in nature, as a foundation for more sophisticated analyses.
