In the studies made by philologists, it is believed that in the dialect of the South-west Islands, there remains still words and pronunciations of our olden days of Nara-Heian Era (710-1185). My survey on "counting of numbers" covers four regions, islands of Amami, Okinawa, Miyako and Yaeyama, and I have reported it in the followings : Report I Two ways of counting of numbers Report II Counting of frequency, and of numbers of person Report III Counting of numbers of dayReport IV of this issue deals with counting of numbers of month, in two items: a) Calendar month b) Counting of numbers of month To a): It is significant that "Shogatsu" is called for the month of January, "Shimotsuki" for November, and "Shiwasu" for December, which are pronounced in locally corrupted way to some extent. However, for the months of February to October no other words are found, with an only exception of Miyako islands which is believed to be related to climate. To b) : The word "chichi"(month) is generally added to numbers, "chu" for one, "ta" for two, "mi" for three, "yu" for four, "ichi" for five, and so forth, which were already mentioned in the above stated Reports I, II, and III.
