The volleyball games, played as a part of the instructional physical education program, may vary much in its trends and atmosphare according to the degree of experiences, fitness and skills, and the school level, such as junior and senior high schools and colleges and universities, In this study, therefore, the methods of ball controling, using the width and the depth of the court effectively, and the trends of games as a part of physical education program, have been investigated. Students of four volleyball classes in a junior college where a 90 minute-session once every week between April and July, 1972, was held, were used as subjects. The volleyball games which were played by six teams in each class were taken into video tape every three weeks during the experimental period. In terms of the changes in the fundamental skills, rate of successful service showed a great improvement, more frequent use of C-zone as the ball comes there was observed and effective use of the depth of the court was noticed. In receiving the service, it was found that the ball was caught more effectively after accumulation of experiences. Concentration of the returned ball to the setter, however, seemed to have been influenced by the location of the served ball. Regarding the development of group strategy, three-step returning of the ball seemed to have increased. Intentional construction of three-step plays as the effect of practice was noticed. The first step in the game trend, defines by Ogano, Tochibori and others (unable to organize systematic plays ; remarkable individual differences; game carried by plays by individual players ; more incidents of serve points and mis-serves observed ; more frequent points by opponent's mis-plays, etc.) was recognized at the beginning stage, which changed into the second step (more attempts of intentional three-step attacks by well verified position roles ; aggressive compensation of other players in defensive moves and more effective attacking moves in utelizing the spikers) towards the end of the observation period.
