The paired Y-organs and mandibular organs of the crayfish Procambarus clarkii, which are located in the cephalothorax, continue to be subjects of intense research interest. The mandibular organs of this crayfish are much more conspicuous than the Y-organs. Herein, the ultrastructure of these organs during several stages of the molt cycle is described. Mitochondria with tubular cristae and Golgi complex in Y-organ cells are evident at the premolt. Changes are more marked in the Y-organ than in the mandibular organ.
