An intersexual phenomenon was observed in male specimens of the freshwater crab Geothelphusa dehaani, where a female genital opening (gonopore) was present. The androgenic gland of the intersexual male crab was examined. Electron microscopic observations revealed that the cell structure of the androgenic glands of the intersexual male crab is different from that of a normal crab, suggesting that the androgenic gland controls the external sexual characteristics.
