Economy of Taiwan is said to have undergone heavy changes first with the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War in July 1937 and second, when Japan plunged into the Pacific War in December, 1941. Taiwan, which had been known as the source of supply of rice and sugar to Japan under the name of "Sugar Imperialism" and "Staple food supply source", was imposed the duty of building the military industry there as the southward advance base and as the intermediate base following Japan's southward advance during the latter part of '30s and beginnig of '40s. In October, 1941, two months prior to the Japan's plunge into the Pacific war, the Goverment-General of Taiwan revoked a conference in order to establish concrete plans to answer the demands imposed upon Taiwan by the Japanese imperalism and started to carry them out. Then, how and under what historical conditions was the militarization of the Taiwan industry carried out with this conference as momentum? And what a percussion did it give to the social and economical states of Taiwan? The subject of this article lies in the study and examination of the intent and contents of the industrization policy of Taiwan which was started in the latter half of 1930 and became full-fledged in '40s in pertinence with the capitalistic structure of Japan. Through suck examination this article demonstrates that the industral stucture of Taiwan had been certainly remodelled and built the beavy industry, but that, it was so defomed and' imperfect that it was possible only in subordination to the Japanese capitalism.
