Following the investigations of comparative amounts of negative politeness of the Americans, British, French, German, Chinese, and Japanese (Yabuuchi, 2003, 2004), the present paper investigated comparative amounts of positive politeness of the six peoples concerning (1) expressions of friendship, affability, and sincerity, (2) compliments, (3) smiles to strangers, (4) self disclosure, and (5) substantive acts constituting positive politeness. The result was as follows. The amounts of positive politeness' Americans > Chinese > British > Japanese > French > German. Mixing with the former result (i.e., the amounts of negative politeness' British > Japanese > German > Americans > French> Chinese), this author attempted to visualize the relationships between the socio-psychological distance and the amounts of positive and negative politeness of the six peoples.
