The aim of this paper is to review the recent developments in social and medical care for the elderly in Sweden. It is important that social care and medical care be balanced. In 1992, the Swedish goernment carried out Adelreformen: 1992-1996. This reform implemented good balance of social care and medical cares for the elderly. Doctors take on the role of medical examination for dementia. Dementia needs proper checkups. This subject deserves more than passing notice. This same is true of the condition for the elderly in Japan.
