Reflection - Impulsivity is a cognitive style that is related with the processing of stimulus information. Much previous research on education or educational psychology reported that the difference of this cognitive variable has an influence upon academic achievements or behaviors by learners. In this study, the relationship between this cognitive variable of 94 Japanese junior high school students and their usage of English learning strategies was investigated. The results showed that reflective or efficient learners of English would consult a dictionary, check their ways of studying, and ask for help from others more often than impulsive or inefficient ones. In addition, learners with impulsivity could use images or pictures when they had to memorize new words. This impulsive feature could be found more remarkably in male students.
