This paper is an exploration , traslation and annotation of Qin Tang Yu Su Bian by Ying Jun in Southern Song China. The Yusu wen, or admonition to the people were issued by Song local offcials for the edification of the populace under their jurisdiction. They addressed the various conflicts stemming from class costradictions in which rural society was embroiled. The officials tried to solve or alleviate these conflicts by making use of the authority which the elders, as the leading stratum in rural society, held over the people at large. The elders were expected to be able to play this role by virtue of their education as well as their experience of life. The conception of the order of rural society which emerges is that of a concentric structure: family-lineage-village. Especially worth noticing here is the significant place given to the lineage in supporting the rural society order.
