The purpose of this paper is to examine potentiality of Service Learning for Bridging between community and higher education. And I will consider the implications of practice of service learning for formation of civil society. Service learning is a kind of learning and teaching method which connects community service with learner's meaningful reflection to cultivate learning experience, teach civic responsibility and strengthen community. Service learning is often expected to strengthen bonds between learners and community and store social capital. Although it is valuable point of service learning, it is criticized that service learning doesn't make a point of political aspect of community. Service learning often settles public problems with private network of sympathy, so makes them invisible. So we need to redefine service learning for the tool of forming civil society which ensures diversity of community. It is not only devotion to community or self realization but also reconstruction of community with understanding social problems collaboratively, and participating the project to solve them. Doing so, we will connect with those who have different ideas from ours and redefine ourselves.
