It appears as though the juku phenomenon will continue to flourish in Japan. As long as an academic hierarchy exists at the high school and university level, Japanese large business corporations will perpetuate the practice of recruiting from a select group of universities. This form of credentialism that places more emphasis upon the reputation of one's university rather on what one learned at that university will help maintain the high demand for non-formal learning opportunities such as those provided by juku. Since there are such a wide range of juku facilities, it is within the financial means of most Jaoanese families to provide these extra educational lessons for their children. The average Japanese family views this type of educational establishment as fair equitable and based solely on meritocratic principles. Most members of society tend to view the juke as a natural extension of the formal school environment. Although somewhat less humanistic than the public schools, juku are not seen as diametrically opposed to the public schools. And far from the image that most Westerns have of these schools, the students seem to enjoy their juku experience.
