Japan has been a modern indutrial world power since the turn of the century. It has also been directly involved in some form of international relations on a global scale for more than 100 years. So why is there such a clamoring in the upper echelons of society for Japan to become internationalized? The current push toward a higer level of internationalization in this country is coming primarily from the business community. The economic motive has two underlying objectives. The first being the continued expansion of Japanese markets overseas. And the second being the training of Japanese personnel to manage the foreign offices. As Japanese capital and manufacturing operations are expanded throughout the wolrd, slowly foreign personnel will be integrated into these corporations. With increasing pressure on Japan to expand its domestic markets, the process will slowly be reversed. An increasing number of foreign organizations will set up offices, research facilities, and marketing networks in Japan. Japanese people will be fired and integrated into these organizations. Coinciding withe these trends in human management and international business will be the continued acceleration of high technology. This afe of high technology will increase the speed and flow of information across international boundaries forcing more international cooperation among all nations. How will the acceleration of the internationalization process affect the Japanese nation? And how prepared are they as group and individual members of society for this socialization process? And what exactly do the Japanese mean whoen they refer to the concept of internatonalization ? As Japan continues on its uncharted course of internationalization, these are some concerns that will need to be addressed
