In order to clarify the formation processes of rillenkarren, a laboratory experiment was carried out. A block was made of plaster of paris, having 45° sloped surface with an area of 120 mm slope length and 80 mm width. This was set, under the condition of vertical spray during a time period of 900 hours. The temperature conditions of the tap water sprayed were 45±5℃. Changing forms of rillenkarren were measured on the cross-sections photographed. A width (W, mm) and depth (D, mm) of rillenkarren were measured from the top of 45° sloped surface to the 1 cm, 2.5 cm, 4 cm, 6 cm, 8 cm, 10 cm lower parts at the surface. These measurements were taken every 50 hours. The original sloped surface was eroded and the following change of rillenkarren forms were observed. Mean lowering rates of the surface were 2 mm/100 hours at the upper part, and 1 mm/100 hours at the lower part. The rillenkarren lengths became longer downwards from the top of the 45° sloped surfaces in accordance with the times of measurement. At the same time, the widths became greater and depths became deeper. Widths expanded rapidly from the beginning of the measurement the time to 200 hours, but cross-sections have a deeper shape from the beginning time to 200 hours at the 1 cm from the top to the lower part of sloped of the surface. After these times, the rates of growth became smaller and stable. As a conclusion, the followings are to be noted: it is indicated that the crosssections of rillenkarren on the top of the sloped surface become greater than the initial forms of the rillenkarren. The ratios of width to depth on the sloped surface stay almost stable after 200 hours. The widths and depths of rilenkarren in the lower part were greater than the upper part of rillenkarren.
