Al_2O_3-based ceramic was the important composite system in cutting tool application. The addition of TiC and SiC particle to Al_2O_3 matrix provide greater microwave absorption of the composite and also improve its mechanical properties. The preliminary study on microwave sintering of Al_2O_3-TiC-SiC was performed in a multimode microwave furnace field of 2.45 GHz. The A1_2O_3-TiC-SiC composite was sintered to high density in a short processing time. The use of a particulate SiC susceptor combined with a suitable insulation configuration enhanced the efficiency of microwave coupling to high temperature.
