TS-63 Numerical Study on Combustion Flow around V-gutter Type Flameholder of Methane-Fueled Ramjet Combustor(Session C-5 Combustor CFD)

Three-dimensional numerical simulation was made to understand the combustion flow around a V-gutter type flameholder of the methane-fueled ramjet for hypersonic transportation. As turbulence model, the computer code uses low Reynolds number type k-ε model developed by Myong and Kasagi. Chemical reaction is assumed that methane and oxygen react in an irreversible single step. Turbulent combustion is modeled by Magnussen's eddy-dissipation model. Pressure and velocity fields are solved by SIMPLER algorithm developed by Patankar. The results of numerical simulation showed a reasonable agreement with PIV-measured data. From a parametric study of numerical simulation, it was understood that combustion field such as flow pattern, reaction zone and so on were transformed by the fuel jet speed. And it was also understood that the operation in high-total-equivalence-ratio condition needed more air induced to the wake region.
