Today many projects have been developped throughout the world in order to extend gas turbine applications to automobiles. Recently, the concept with a heat exchanger, developped by constructors and designers, consists of adding a rotating recuperator. The performances, needed in the hot parts of the engine, in general, and particularly in the regenerator are very high and require the use of ceramic material. Using a fixed heat exchanger could be another solution with high performances and easier assembly. The first part of this study will be devoted to the comparison between these two types of recuperators. In the second part, we will present possible concepts called "overexpansion" and their corresponding thermodynamical cycles, we will then compare their performances. Finally, the last part deals with the design of metal or ceramic fixed heat exchangers developped at ONERA. The experimental set up and the main results will be presented.
