An interacting radial and axial air jet flame stabiliser, Jet Mix, with extremely low NO_x characteristics with gaseous fuels, was investigated with kerosene and gas oil fuels at gas turbine primary zone conditions at atmospheric pressure. The influence of the proportion of the radial to axial air jet flows was shown to influence the NO_x emissions and combustion efficiency and an optimum proportion of radial air in the range 10-20% was identified. Unburned hydrocarbon emissions were low, indicating that there were no atomisation problems. NO_x emissions substantially higher than for gaseous fuels were found, but still sufficiently low to meet a 75ppm NO_x regulation at pressures up to 16 bar for kerosene and gas oil.
