In March 1982, Mitsui successfully completed all development work of the SB60C-M gas turbine. This turbine has a shaft-end output of 13070KW and an efficiency of 30.6% as ISO base rating. As for design features of SB60C-M gas turbine, emphasis has been placed on good marketability, a wide range of applications, high performance, long-continuous operation capability and long life. The thermal efficiency of the SB60C-M was achieved by combining a pressure ratio of 12.4 to 1 with a turbine inlet temperature of 1000℃. This paper includes a detailed description of the gas turbine and the component development programs such as application of electron beam welding to heat resisting alloy, the technique of diffusion bonding and the cooling technique of the moving turbine blade together with their test results.
