The flow field within the rotor of a transonic axial flow fan has been investigated in the tip region by using a Laser Two Focus velocimeter. The tests were carried out at design speed and mass flow corresponding to the point of maximum efficiency. The flow phenomena investigated include the flow variation from passage to passage, the shock intensity, the three-dimensionality of the shock in the blade passage and the shock boundary layer interaction.
