The biosynthesis of corrin was examined in a new light using ^<13>C-labeling and NMR techniques. [2-^<13>C]-ALA, [5-^<13>C]-ALA, [^<13>CH_3]-methionine, [^<13>CD_3)-methionine, [8-^<13>C]-PBG and(5,15-^<13>C]-Uro'gen III were prepared and fed to resting cells of P.shermanii. Excellent and specific incorporations into vitamin B_<12>(1) were achieved with all precursors. More recently, sirohydrochlorine (5) and (6) have been isolated and shown to be an intermediate of vitamin B_<12>(1). Uro'gen III(4) was the key intermediate of heme, chlorophyll and vitamin B_<12>. However little was known about the chemistry of Uro'gen. We tried to study Uro'gen chemistry.
