The writer studied the influence of protein-eliminated extract from spleen upon rabbit's blood pressure and pulse systematically, over a long period, by means of the bloodless method. The extract was made in such a condition that 1cc corresponded to 10gr of the raw organ. 1) No changes worth noting were observed by intravenous injection of 0.1cc per kg in blood pressure, pulse curve amplitude and pulse rate. 2) By intravenous injection of 0.25cc per kg, changes were found in blood pressure, and pulse curve amplitude. 3) By intravenous injection of 0.5 cc per kg relatively remarkable changes were produced. Maximal blood pressure fell by 25 mm Hg on the average immediately after injection, and then in one or two cases ascended a little, but in 60 minutes descended by 25 mmHg on the average compared with the original value. The degree of the change in minimal pressure was small compared with that of maximal pressure. Pulse curve amplitude decreased by 2.4 mm on the average immediately after injection, and in 60 minutes decreased by 2.4mm compared with the original value. These changes returned almost to the original values after 24 hours. 4) By subcutaneous injection of 0.5cc per kg, changes were later in appearance and slighter in degree compared with those by intravenous injection. 5) From the above results the author perceives that extract of spleen exerts a depressor effect upon the blood pressure.
