The object of this paper lies in making clear what is meant by the two types which the ruling merchant's group in the towns of the medieval England consists of ; in other words, describing the historical facts in the 14th century of the fierce conflicts between the grocers' fishmongers, and drapers in London, and in the matter of lineage and character, comparing the merchants dependent on feudalism with those of a new type, the writer tries to prove that the former should stand for Gild-Merchant and that the latter Craft-Gild.
