Europe has undergone a revolutionary change which began sometime in the middle of the 19th century. At that time many thinkers appeared. Among them those who dealt with the problem of "Self"(ego) were M. Stirner, K. Marx, S. Kierkegaard and F. Nietzsche. Though they have dealt with the same problem, the ways which they took in dealing with this problem were very much different, or they were rather contrary to each other. However, they were one with regard to this ardent desire to propose a figure of future mankind. Stirner presented the ego in the background of Nothing (Nichts), Marx the ego in relationship to mankind, Kierkegaard the ego standing before God and finally Nietzsche pictured the ego in the midst of the Dionysian world.
