PRESENTATION METHOD OF WEATHER FORECAST ON A SMALL CAR DISPLAY(INTERNATIONAL Workshop on Advanced Image Technology 2008)

This paper reports on the presentation methods and the driver's ability to grasp content of weather forecast while driving a car. The situation simulated was driving an automatic-shift automobile along a local road at 30-60km. The participant sat in the driver's seat of the simulator and simulated driving and required weather forecast contents via a home server, while watching the image of the road. The contents were displayed on a car monitor. We made subjective evaluation tests which presentation method is most comprehensible as a weather forecast while driving a car. Also, we measured the watching time of the monitor to grasp the weather forecast. Results show that it can be easy for drivers to understand the weather forecast content used with color patterns that associated the weather in a white background. The watching time of the monitor is kept within half a second that meets the safety guideline of the Ministry of Land, infrastructure and Transport Japan. So, it is possible to present weather forecast while driving a car with safety.
