In this paper Lady Chatterley's Lover, D.H. Lawrence's last novel is discussed. This paper aims at describing mainly how Constance Chatterley's vigour and vitality have been restored in the ancient wood through the sexual relationship with Oliver Mellors, the gamekeeper, and eventually how important the existence of the wood will be for mankind to regain his vitality. This paper consists of three chapters: the first chapter deals with the process of this work being published as an unexpurgated edition, and in the second chapter, the social and cultural background is treated. This story covers the time between 1917 and 1924, during which there occurred World War I and the sense of values had been much changed. The last chapter discusses the main theme: how Constance Chatterley's vital energy was recovered in the wood, full of vital power. The problem about the British class system is described in the background of this work: labourers (colliers) against the gentleman (Sir Clifford). There is a gulf impassable between them. This human society is contrasted with the lively leap of life in the wood full of fresh plants and trees. The wood and the life in the wood is the main theme of Lady Chatterley's Lover, which is discussed in the present paper.
