Regarding the reliability of marine radars, a few reports for only vacuum tube type have been seen in the past. Hence, the failure data of marine radars for these 5 years were analysed. And MTBF was ascertained to have the value of some 620h, which shows great strides. The author proposed following equations to evaluate general reliability of such important nautical instruments as radars : A^^^-=(T-D_1-D_2)/T D_1=∫^T_0(T-t)λ_1e^<-λ_1t>dt D_2=ξ∫^T_0e^<-λ_1^t>λ_2dt, where A^^^- is "time effective operability", T is assumed period from port to port, D_1 and λ_1 are down time at sea and failure rate for serious failures respectively, and D_2, λ_2 and ξ are down time, failure rate and average repairing time for slight failures respectively. By applying data got from above analysis to those equations, they were proved to have effectiveness.
