In 2004, Mobile Broadcasting Corporation has launched the Worlds' first S-band Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (S-DMB) service in Japan. The S-DMB system had adopted the "Digital System E" registered as in ITU, which was innovated and submitted by Japan in 2000. Moba-HO! as the S-DMB service has a unique features such as non-directional small antenna can receive the S-band direct broadcasting signal from the Satellite so that no parabolic antenna is needed, no attenuation due to heavy rain and it broadcasts nation-wide at once incorporated with terrestrial repeaters which covers indoor and tunnels etc. The multimedia contents of the S-DMB service consists of the multi-channel of Video, Audio and Data information as commercial service. In addition to the commercial service, it is planed to start to provide the Earthquake Early Warning service over in Japan as disaster prevention media by the end of this fiscal year, in March 2008. The Moba-HO! is a ubiquitous service and also the space-based infrastructure so that no direct damage caused by natural disasters on Earth. It means the S-DMB system has robustness against the natural disasters such as Earthquake, Typhoon and so on. This paper describes the brief review of the S-DMB system and services, and introduces the Earthquake Early Warning service which is now under preparation.
