• A review on the microscopic structure of the collective state in the transitional nuclei is presented. The favoured pair concept of Hecht et al. is first introduced. Various methods of collective state construction are investigated from the favoured pair point of view, and the importance of the seniority projection is emphasized. Effects of non S-D or non collective states are discussed, and it is suggested that the 4^+ collective pair plays a significant role. The truncation in the boson expansion technique is also discussed, and a serious problem is pointed out.
