This past year I observed a teaching method to cultivate thought-type reading comprehension at Morioka Municipal Kuriyagawa J.H.S (Teaching Materials: Taketori Monogatari, Teacher: Ms. Mieko Horie, Students: first graders). That reflected upon my research of thougt-type reading comprehension ability. The teacher held up the ability to grasp differences between past and present by comparing people's lives, culture, viewpoints and ther way of thinking. Using those teaching methods she was able to cultivate and accomplish her goals in fulfilling the needs of her students. Furthermore, as a teaching method for cultivating comprehension ability, she attributes it mainly on reading aloud and recitation. All the students read and recited the text more than 40 times. Students enjoyed reading aloud and recitation, grasped the contents easily, thus they were able to comprehend the ability. This is similar to the saying "Judgment can be seen naturally by reading 100 times." It was a wonderful student-centered class aimed at raising students will, which is in demand these days.
