The author has been a teacher in charge of the practical childcare training classes over 6 years, trying to find a better teaching method in terms of prior instructions to make it more beneficial to the students. Exchanging ideas with the instructors of the institutions, the author sometimes found differences of opinion on what we expect the students to learn from the practical works, as well as how to manage the tasks to attain their goals. For example, instructors tended to count on schools to offer students basic training beforehand, while we teachers expect the students to improve their abilities through the hands-on training. It is natural that the contents of the prior instructions and the practical assignments/goals are correlated with each other. On this assumption, this study aims to give a detailed description of the prior instructions, by examining the following three issues ; the students' situations at the institutions, the examples of the training, and recording in the daily log. On the basis of this report, the investigation about the importance and the problems of prior instructions will be further clarified in the subsequent studies.
