The purpose of this study was to research awareness and violation of rights in people with mental disorders in their daily life. This study was conducted from 2003 to 2004 using a series of focus group interviews with seven groups of people with mental disorders. All 60 interviewees were members of sheltered work shop in their community. As a result of the qualitative analysis, there are some variations of their experiences of violation of rights especially during psychiatric treatment. A series of these researches was able to stimulate the awareness of their rights through focus group interviews. This study described each variation of their experiences violation of rights during psychiatric treatment with three analyses frameworks which are: 1) violation of legal right which Mental Health and Welfare Law provide, 2) violation of human right, 3) violation of patient's right. This study promoted awareness of rights, advocacy of people with mental disorders. It also helped to clarify the roles and responsibilities of certified psychiatric social workers who advocate them.
