Computer vision is a technology to make computers understand images captured with cameras, which was started for developing a sort of artificial vision system with computers over 30 years ago. In recent 10 years, computer vision has been applied to virtual reality and mixed reality area, especially to capturing 3D structures of objective scene, and/or presenting virtual objects in realistic manner. In this presentation, I would like to discuss about recent trends and future perspective of computer vision as an essential technology for virtual reality and mixed reality, while I introduce my recent research activity related to virtual reality and mixed reality based on computer vision technology.
