The author tries to describe and explain some syntactically and semantically characteristic traits of the Middle English alliterative poem, Patience, from the descriptive and theoretical viewpoint for the purpose of offering certain definite clues of clear understanding and better appreciation of Middle English literature. The result of the research shows the continuous flow of the innovative development of the English language from Old English through Middle English to Modern English. It may also illustrate the transitional aspects of English language as a kind of cross-section of its development or innovation. This paper is to treat the several features of verbs in Patience. Certain tendency of differentiation and innovation can clearly be ascertained.
