This paper analyses the activities of Catholic welfare in Amami-Oshima. There many people became Catholic by Catholic missionary in modern times. In 1930, Catholic people were persecuted. So Catholic population reduced. But after World War II, it recovered. After war, custodial care home was built for babies who were born in leprosy sanitarium. And then, child care institution was build for them. Also clinics were built because of poor medical services. In addition, institution for intellectual disorder children, day nursery, special nursing home for the aged were built. They were the first institutions in Amami. Catholic church supported the life of island people, for example, carried sick people by car, taught sewing machine after war. Also saved the people who were burned out, there were many big fires in various places. Mikokoro church in Naze city set the social welfare department in youth, and had volunteer work in custodial care for infants. Daikuma church had been visited the leprosy sanitarium, Amami-wako-en. In these activities, Jerome Lukaszewaki Father who were in Amami for a long time, played a big role. So some missions came to Amami to do social welfare activities. These activities had a great result in the life of Amami.
